Communications Coordinator
Nissa Hopkins (M.S. Edu/TESOL) is a tenured professor of English for Academic Purpose (EAP) at Valencia College, East Campus. She also serves as the EAP Coordinator for East Campus as well as the Teaching and Learning Academy (TLA) Facilitator for East Campus; this particular work involves guiding tenure candidates through research and professional development. Additionally, she serves as a Valencia College representative for the Florida state-wide EAP Consortium. Nissa has been teaching EAP at Valencia College since 2011, and before that, she taught ESOL and EAP at Seminole State College for seven years. Like her EAP students, she has also lived in a different country and learned a different language; Japanese is her second language, which she utilized during her time as a military linguist/translator prior to her teaching career. Outside of professional endeavors and commitments, she loves learning about different languages and cultures, yoga, working out, spending time with her loved ones, binging on Netflix shows, animals of all kinds, traveling, and eating lots and lots of delicious food from around the world. She is passionate about teaching and learning and feels grateful to be able to assist others as they progress through their own academic and professional journeys.
